The Smartronix RDA value added cable solutions reduce cabling cost, weight, and complexity by combining several existing cables into one multi-functional cable. Military or civilian users of the Harris PRC-117F (solution shown below) and the Thales PRC-148 (solution shown below) radios who want to transmit data from a computer over the radios can use the Smartronix RDA “smart” cable.

The cable combines functions of existing cables and an improved data modem, providing benefits of reduced weight, quicker radio setup, lower cost, and simplified radio operation. RDA driver software maps standard COM ports to the radio ports allowing simplified software interfacing. Four serial ports are mapped to virtual COM ports in the computer operating system (see chart on bottom right). Three of the serial ports are simple async ports. One of the ports employs an asynchronous to synchronous converter allowing data to be synchronized to the radio’s clock. All computer data passes through a single USB port.
