Subsidiary Cogon Systems Awarded Subcontract To Expand Pensacola
Health Information Exchange
Smartronix subsidiary Cogon Systems (Cogon) has
been awarded a subcontract by Strategic Health Intelligence, LLC
(SHI) to extend access of the company’s Virtual Health Network
(VHN) platform to Northwest Florida healthcare providers in
rural and medically underserved communities. The initiative
supports the expansion and utilization of the Florida Health
Information Exchange (HIE), which was developed by Harris
Corporation for the Florida Agency of Health Care Administration
(AHCA). This announcement follows the award of a contract to SHI
as the prime contractor to Harris Corporation. SHI is a
subsidiary of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce and the
governing entity of Pensacola’s Health Information Exchange
(HIE). The goal of the initiative is to promote utilization of
the Florida HIE by authorized healthcare providers for the
purpose of improving the continuity of care in the State of
Florida. The Pensacola HIE was the first exchange to join the
Florida HIE.
Cogon Systems’ VHN functions as a
platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and is deployed in a cloud
infrastructure. The VHN's base functionality is as a gateway
adapter that handles the inbound and outbound transformation of
data in a variety of formats, including Health Level 7 (HL7)
v2.x and HL7 v3. The VHN also securely stores and provides
access to health information records and is connected to both
the Florida HIE and the eHealth Exchange. The VHN currently
stores health information on approximately 500,000 unique
patients and exchanges in excess of 100,000 records per day.
Cogon is a Florida-based health information
technology and consulting firm that facilitates healthcare
connectedness. "We are excited to congratulate and support Cogon
as it takes another positive step toward our shared goal of
developing community-wide health information ecosystems that
will value-enable health care and eventually assist in managing
our Country’s increasing health care cost challenge," stated
Smartronix’ CEO John Parris.
