Smartronix Awarded Data.gov Blanket Purchase Agreement
Hollywood, MD –
14 September 2010 – Smartronix is proud to announce
the award of a $46 million Blanket Purchase Agreement for
virtual dataset hosting for Data.gov. Under this contract, Team
Smartronix will have the opportunity to work with the General
Services Administration to provide innovative Cloud-based
hosting of open government datasets to Federal agencies.
Smartronix brings together a visionary and creative team of
industry experts in open government data, Cloud hosting and
security, Web design, social collaboration, and emerging Web
technologies. Most notably, this team, consisting of Smartronix
(as prime contractor), Synteractive, TMP Government, and KPMG,
with close collaboration from Microsoft, successfully
implemented Recovery.gov 2.0 and is currently modernizing
Treasury.gov.
The Smartronix proposed platform to host Data.gov datasets
leverages an innovative, interoperable architecture built around
data brokering services such as Microsoft Codename Dallas for
open government data. Depending upon the unique requirements of
individual agencies, leading edge technologies such as Windows
Azure, SQL Azure, SharePoint 2010, Bing, FAST Search, Amazon Web
Services EC2 and S3, Terremark, JackBe, ESRI, CloudAdvantage,
and IxReveal will also be assessed for implementation.
“This solution will mark a tremendous new capability for
agencies providing open government datasets to their
constituents through Data.gov and their own portals. The goal is
to make accessing and visualizing open government data as simple
for citizens as possible," says Smartronix Chief Technology
Officer (CTO) Robert Groat. "At the same time, we will
radically reduce the complexity and burden of open government
dataset hosting for agency Chief Information Officers
(CIOs)."
