Smartronix Launches Intelligent Cloud Hub for Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Reston, Virginia
– 27 January 2013 - New Offering Takes Advantage of
AWS Direct Connect To Make It Easier For Customers To Integrate
On Premises Resources With AWS
Smartronix, a pioneer in designing and
implementing enterprise-class cloud computing solutions for both
public and private sectors, announced today the launch of the
Intelligent Cloud Hub™ (ICH) for AWS. This solution is a
complete managed service offering that enables customers to run
advanced enterprise workloads reliably and securely across
multiple infrastructure environments. By connecting a customer’s
on-premise datacenter through the ICH, Smartronix is providing a
dynamic cloud environment directly connected to AWS’ immensely
scalable and robust Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2).
The ICH includes a cloud brokering capability and services
portal, integrated service and security management, and trusted
connections to AWS. Customers can provision and manage compute
power, add new services, or extend on-premise environments into
AWS, resulting in lower transition and operational costs.
Centralized billing, provisioning, and service management
provides a single view across an entire managed ecosystem,
giving clear visibility into security, service health, and
service utilization.
"Real physical and technical barriers exist that
often prevent our customers from consuming cloud services to
their best advantage. Mixed infrastructure environments address
many of these concerns; however, the challenge of trying to
implement, secure, manage, update, and monitor solutions across
on-premise and cloud platforms can prove challenging," says
Robert Groat, Smartronix Chief Technology Officer (CTO). "We
developed the Intelligent Cloud Hub to remove these barriers and
provide a feasible option to help our customers reap the
benefits of the AWS cloud."
The core feature of the ICH is the ability to
create a software defined network (SDN) infrastructure that can
extend and converge a customer’s datacenter securely into the
cloud. The ICH uses a Cisco Unified Data Center Architecture,
which incorporates Unified Fabric technology and Unified
Computing Systems (UCS). These core technologies allow
enterprise customers to create hybrid workloads across
on-premise and cloud environments, which are ideal for
large-scale transactional systems, real-time applications,
high-performance databases, and in-line security management
systems. "Smartronix and Cisco are aligned to provide a
secure hybrid approach to deliver solutions via joint
engagements," says Dan Kent CTO of Cisco Public Sector.
Groat states, "We chose Cisco technology and AWS
Direct Connect capabilities to provide our customers with a
consistent, secure, and network isolated path to the cloud."
AWS Direct Connect provides a high bandwidth dedicated
connection that can be partitioned into multiple interfaces,
enabling access to resources like Amazon Simple Storage Service
(Amazon S3) and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) instances
while maintaining network isolation between the environments.
The ICH extends an already established portfolio for Smartronix
as a provider of managed services tailored for the cloud. As an
AWS APN Premier Consulting Partner, AWS Authorized Government
Partner, and member of the AWS Channel Reseller Program,
Smartronix has used AWS services to not only design and deploy
many large, complex solutions in the public cloud, but to also
demonstrate advanced knowledge of such public sector
requirements as security and compliance. In addition, Smartronix
was one of the first to deploy both a Federal and Cabinet-level
agency information system into the cloud, using Amazon Elastic
Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). "We believe that many of Smartronix’
customers can benefit from the ICH, which leverages the AWS
Direct Connect service. Smartronix is inspiring innovative
solutions that drive real value for the public sector," says
Teresa Carlson, Vice President, Global Public Sector, AWS.
"Solutions such as the ICH help address business needs and
continue to expand the number of options for public sector
enterprises moving their IT infrastructure and applications into
the AWS Cloud." For more information on the ICH, visit http://www.cloudassured.com/ich.
