Smartronix Develops New Intelligent Cable For Use by US Air Force
California, Maryland – 29 May
2007 –
Smartronix has been awarded two contracts totaling 117 units of
its new Radio Data Adapter (RDA)-006 Intelligent Cable by the
Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) at Hurlburt Field.
The cables have gone through Air Force testing and approval and
are being purchased to work with the Thales PRC-148 radio.
The RDA-006 is an extension of the already existing RDA line of
intelligent cables. The RDA-003A has had outstanding success in
the Air Force as an intelligent interface between a wide variety
of laptops and Harris PRC-117F radios. Both the RDA-003A and the
RDA-006 cables are designed to combine four existing cables into
one, allowing a computer to perform four different radio
interface tasks using a single USB connection. Retailing for
$1500 each, the cables reduce cost, weight, and power
requirements.
